Teal Tranquil Seas, Surfing, Mexican food, Ice cream and adventure.

Updated: Jul 7, 2022

It’s been an eventful week in mermaid world. The water has been tranquil, sun has been blazing and everyday has included an adventure! One such adventure was me purchasing a surfboard. It’s one of those dream come true moments that you can’t quite figure out why you never made it happen, but you finally did and it's really freaking rad. Tranquil teal seas that we have been having are not ideal for surfing, however I have been quite happy getting familiar with her, just floating and swimming. The new foam technology is amazing and now I just wait for surf. Not that I am complaining about tranquil seas. They have kept me very busy paddling all week showing off the most beautiful estuary in Florida.

The water is the clearest I have seen in a very long time, the dolphins are so happy, playful putting on the best shows, and the abundance of thriving marine life has been so exciting to find and observe. I even found a sea star inside of a sea urchin that he had likely been munching on. Now that’s something you do see everyday day.

What I have been seeing nearly every day this week is our friends at the Pink Pony and Tortuga’s! Mexican food is my favorite, and I can be honest and say that I am particular about what I think is good Mexican food. Maybe it's because I lived in San Diego and was spoiled with the most authentic fresh Mexican food there is. Out there I lived and breathed fish tacos, carne asada burritos and tamales. There was nothing better than a fresh tamale from our neighbor with an ice cold horchata. When I moved to Florida, I didn’t think I would ever get to experience that vibe or flavor again. But David, and Katerie at Tortuga’s have brought the authentic Mexican street vibe to Boca and its honestly the best I have had since San Diego. Kateri makes a sublime spicy beef burrito, the best I have ever had, and they are filled with lots of love and the best spice!

Ice Cream is a necessity on a hot Florida day and The Pink Pony has been a must stop on Boca since I first started coming to Florida years ago. When I was a kid, a zillion years ago I would ride my bike down the old country road I lived on to the local ice cream shop. It had all the yummiest hand dipped flavors like superman and rocky road, which is the best in the world on a hot summer afternoon. The Pink Pony gives me that nostalgia feeling, except it’s on the most beautiful island in Florda. They have so many flavors, toppings to choose from, cold drinks, the coolest merchandise and is owned by a very special family that I adore! The Pink Pony and Tortuga are the pulse of Boca and it's just not right to come visit the island without stopping in. I must stop by at least once a week, usually more!

It is a holiday weekend, and it will be extremely busy on the water and island so please be extra mindful and patient. Stay Safe and Salty. Happy 4th of July!
